MEETING COMMON SOCIETY IN OSLO

A world-famous peace scientist, philosopher and activist from South Korea Professo YOUNG SEEK CHOUE, known as Korea's Gandhi, visited Oslo, at the invitation of the Mahatma Gandhi Foundation for Non-Violent Peace in Oslo.

There took place an inaugural meeting in Oslo of the Global Common Society, at the "Handverker" Conference Center Hall, on Tuesday, March 20, 2001. This meeting was attended by the Norwegian academic personalities, ambassadors and diplomats of various foreign missions accredited to Norway, social and intellectual elite, peace researchers, social and politicalscientists, politicians and representatives of the political parties, social and youth organizations, philanthropists, representatives of the Norwegian ethnic and immigrant groups, noted writers and literary critics, journalists and other media representatives, etc.

Professor Dr Amalendu Guha, President of the Mahatma M.K. Gandhi Foundation for Non-Violent Peace of Norway and President of the Norway Chapter of the GCS International presided over the ceremony. The following dignitaries constituted the Presidium:

H.E. the Ambassador Korea in Norway Mr Park Kyung Tae, eminent women writer of Norway Eva Ramm, Professor Amalendu Guha, President of the GCS International Professor Emeritus Young Seek Choue, Europe's foremost Gandhian Philosopher Professor Emeritus Arne Naess, Rector Professor Jae Shik Sohn from Korea and Vice-President of the Mahatma Gandhi Foundation and Attorney-at-Law Grethe Larsen.

The Norwegian Prime Minister Mr Stoltenberg who was well-informed of this meeting. but could not attend it, sent congratulatory greetings. The President of the Lower House of the Norwegian Parliament Mrs Kirsti Kolle Grondahl, who was busy because of the parliament session, sent special greetings to the meeting wishing it a grand success.

The Education Minister of Norway Mr Trond Giske, who promised but could attend the meeting because of the cabinet meeting, also sent his

congratulatory greetings of success to the conference.

Professor Amalendu Guha in his welcome speech, made a brilliant

introductory presentation of President Young Seek Choue's

multi-dimensional and multi-directional creative humanistic and

peace-related activities, to the audience.The hall was full-packed.

Then, Professor Young Seek Choue, who also happens to be the President of

the GCS International delivered an important speech on:

IS IT REALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO ACHIEVE LASTING WORLD PEACE EVEN IN THE 21ST

CENTURY ?

The speech, containing valuable thoughts and wisdom peace, highlighted the

thought-provoking ideas of President Young Seek Choue and was much applauded

by the dignified audience

Professor Dr Jae Shik Sohn, President of the Korea Chapter of the GCS

International made a speech elucidating Chancellor Young Seek's life-long

devoted actvities for peace, Korean unification and the GCS movement.

After that Professor Amalendu Guha, President of the Norway Chapter made a

speech expressing and explaining the missions and visions of the GCS

movement and its functional importance and perspectives in Norway and the

globe. He vowed that the Norwegian chapter will devotionally work to

implement the objectives of the Global Common People's Society in Norway.

President Young Seek Choue, in his second important speech, put forward

different aspects of the activities of the GCS movement all over the world

and offered to extend the guiding and helping hands in implementing its

objectives.

Then, Professor Emertus Arne Naess (former Professor of Philosophy of the

Universities of Oxford and Oslo) and most respected ecosophist of Europe,

released a book on:

YOUNG SEEK CHOUE'S PEACE PHILOSOPHY AND SOCIAL DOCTRINE

written by Professor Amalendu Guha.

This occasion was the most colorful event of the program when two

personalities of the

East and the West, the messengers of peace, embraced each other, appreciated

each other

and sincerely vowed to each other for maintaining the bondage of peaceful

harmony and global friendship.

Professor Young Seek Choue presented Professor Arne Naess a set of the

Encyclopedia of Peace, a unique work of its kind in the world, which was

edited by him.

This colorful ceremonial event came to an end after the thanks-giving speech

by the Vice-President of the Gandhi Foundation Mrs Grethe Larsen.

After the meeting, before and during the dinner Chancellor Young Seek Choue

had fruitful discussions and talks with many dignified persons and

participants and replies to their querries, before and during the dinner
